MM5 on Mars

One of the most remarkable achievements in the comparative study of atmospheric planetary dynamic is the discovery of the factor who drives atmospheric shape and heating rate; Mars is a more important case because it represents a planet very similar to Earth. The Earth atmospheric circulation has been studied for long time using both GCM (General Circulation Models) and Mesoscale Models or LAM (Limited Area Models). The latter have been widely applied to high resolution weather forecast. Similarly, GCM have been employed to reproduce Mars atmospheric circulation and more recently attempt have been done to use LAM.We developed version 3 of Penn State/NCAR Mesoscale Model (MM5): we started from the original version of the model described by Grell et al. (1994) and Dudhia (1993) and we adapted it for Mars planet trying to make it suitable for a new scenario.
